The penrhyn
Penrhyn (också kallad Tongareva eller Mangarongaro) är den mest avskilda och största atollen av alla de 15 Cooköarna i Stilla havet. Penrhyn ligger 1 365 km nord-nord-ost om huvudön Rarotonga. Namnet Penrhyn efter "Lady Penrhyn" gavs av kapten William Cropton Lever som satte sin fot på ön den 8 augusti 1788. Webb19 aug. 2015 · Despite his links to slavery, he was known as Richard Pennant the Improver, and he planted over 600,000 trees in the area. By 1790 he had established Port Penrhyn, a harbour at the mouth of the River Cegin. From there slate was transported to London, Bristol, Liverpool and Ireland. Pennant became MP for Petersfield in 1761.
